Bestselling author has a message and mission to share with his readers - to expose the mystery of the sacredness of the body.

Writers and readers can learn so much from the growth patterns of authors who have made it to the bestsellers list. These authors have found the way to reach readers, usually through a personal message and journey the authors need to share.

Best-selling author, Deepak Chopra, is one of those authors. With over fifty books in 85 languages, Deepak told readers in an article for Publishers Weekly (August17, 2009) that he writes for two reasons.

Deepak writes to think and to persuade. His books have focused on healing the mind and the body, spirituality, and finding peace.

Books About Well Being

Deepak’s books, according to his web site, have won many awards including the Quill Award, the 2005 Nautilus Book Award. And, fourteen books have been on the New York Times bestseller’s list.

Just a few of the 50 titles include, Jesus: a Story Enlightenment (Harper Collins, 2008), Why is God Laughing? (Harmony Books, 2008), The Third Jesus: The Christ We Cannot Ignore (Three Rivers Press, 2008), Peace is the Way (Three Rivers Press, 2005), and The Book of Secrets (Three Rivers, 2004).

Deepak revealed to his readers why he has written about the mind and the body, “A clue to why I write came one day in medical school when I walked into a room where students meet a cadaver for the first time. My scalpel incised a thin line in the parchment-yellow skin, cutting from breastbone down the belly, and in one stroke the mystery of the human body was revealed.”

He also felt that one mystery was destroyed at the same time – the sacredness of the body. He wrote, “My entire writing career has been an attempt to regain that mystery.”

Writes for a Purpose

Deepak writes for two purposes, “As a way to think and a way to persuade.” His way of breaking down complicated medical and psychology theories into easy to read and understand language shows that he takes his readers into great consideration when writing.

Deepak wrote about his latest book, Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul (due to be released in October 2009), that he explains how one’s psyche is connected to the body and how mind over matter can create physical illness. In the Publishers Weekly article, he explains, “Recent studies have shown that abused children are more likely to develop autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. They are four times more likely to endure psychotic breaks when they grow up. These two factors indicate that the psyche precedes the body in causing illness.”

Expanding a Writing Career

Deepak has expanded his life beyond a writing life. He is an international speaker and presenter, a lecturer, a radio talk show host, and the co-founder of the Chopra Center for Wellbeing.

Deepak also received his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and completed an internship at Muhlenberg Hospital in New Jersey.
